About Chefs for Kids
Chefs for Kids, Inc. (CFK) is a 501(c)3 organization dedicated to alleviating malnutrition and hunger in children through education and awareness. This educational program’s goal is to help children build healthy behaviors while they are young – behaviors that we hope will carry into adult-hood. Eating a healthful diet and maintaining a physically active lifestyle have been proven to reduce the risk of chronic disease that can place an economic as well as a physical burden on our entire community.
Chefs for Kids educators work with first and second grade students in high-needs schools. Children learn to choose foods that provide the greatest benefit to their bodies and learn about the importance of physical activity. In 24 years the program has educated over 49,600 children.
Besides the educational program, CFK:
- serves almost 9,000 breakfasts to children over each school year
- provides Thanksgiving meals and holiday food gift cards to almost 150 families each year
- provides a Christmas Eve breakfast and Mother’s Day luncheon to the women and children at Shade Tree Shelter each year
- sends home educational, bilingual informational letters to the families each month
